After working in finance for 5 years, I recently struck out on my own to make that dream a reality.
The first problem I'm working to solve is smartphone addiction, which I'm ironically attacking by building a mobile application, called Basta. Basta (meaning enough in a few languages) will allow people to spend less time glued to their phones by acting as an away message for the device. The ultimate goal is to eliminate the idea of "always on" and allow us to live more focused lives.
1 Founded Basta, a venture designed to make mobile technology less intrusive.
2 Worked in the fixed income analytics group at Blackrock.
3 Managed a $500,000 equity portfolio that outperformed the market after the crash of 2008-2009.
4 Volunteered at a Brooklyn rooftop farm that produced hydroponic lettuce.
Pave has the potential to be a fantastic bridge between working for a large firm and building Basta into a sustainable and long-term business. I'll use Pave funds to continue creating and spreading Basta, with the goal of providing a framework for friends, family and businesses to encourage taking time away from our phones.
Outside of the financial arrangement, I'm primarily interested
in Pave for the contractual bond it creates between backers and prospects. I'd appreciate guidance on the technical aspects of building a web/mobile business, as well as introductions to partners/investors. Anyone who's also interested in farming/food production is a bonus.
David is a terribly smart chap and having left the world of finance to pursue his passion as an entrepreneur i have complete confidence that he will succeed!
I know David in a business context. Love the idea for Basta but independently from that, with his newfound coding skills and business background I think David will build something awesome.
David is a very intelligent, forward thinking, focused businessman. I am honored and excited to be able to invest in his future success.
I’m interested in David’s idea because I believe that nowadays with emails, messages and all other notifications, we end up losing our privacy. I am hopeful yet confident that with David's educational background and previous experience, he will be able to build Basta into a mass product, enabling people to take time away from their phones.
David's a smart guy with a record of success. His current idea should resonate with everyone constantly tethered to their technology. I'm excited to both endorse him and be one of his backers.

Building Basta, which began in earnest in August 2012, has been an eye-opening learning experience. From learning app design and online marketing, to building websites and writing articles, every day has been a day of growth. I'm looking forward to getting our first product into the wild and letting the real learning begin.
Worked in the fixed income analytics group, primarily advising large banking clients of BlackRock on their interest rate and credit risk exposure.
