Today, we're introducing two new roles at Pave: Compensation Engineers and Compensation Fellows. Both exist for the same reason: AI is changing how compensation work gets done. And going forward, the teams getting the most out of AI are going to pair deep compensation expertise with hands-on experimentation and building.
Pave Agent brings real-time data and AI directly into the day-to-day work of compensation teams. But every compensation team runs its own process, with its own philosophy, backend platforms, and approvals. Turning a capable agent into a workflow your team trusts takes people who understand both the technology and the craft. That's what these two roles do.
Compensation Engineers: building alongside you
Compensation Engineers are technical partners who help your team accelerate AI adoption with Pave Agent. They are people like Andrew Hunt, who bring people analytics and compensation expertise to turn your AI ambitions into everyday practice.
A Compensation Engineer helps your team:
- Identify the projects and workflows that are the best candidates for automation with Pave Agent, from benchmarking to market pricing to cycle preparation.
- Scope each opportunity and develop a clear plan for implementation, grounded in how your team actually works.
- Accelerate your comp function’s AI maturity by sharing practices, guidance, and a point of view on what to automate next as your needs change.
The goal is simple: you spend less time on repetitive work, and more time on the real-world people decisions that matter.
Compensation Fellows: decades of experience, built into the product
Compensation Fellows, like Josh Steinfeld, Stefan Gaertner, and myself, bring decades of compensation consulting, compensation business partner, CompTech, people analytics, and pay equity experience to Pave, and they they put that experience to work in the following ways:
- Product strategy. Fellows help decide what we build next, grounded in how compensation leaders actually work.
- New capabilities in Pave Agent. Fellows develop new skills for Pave Agent, which are pre-packaged sets of expertise that teach Pave Agent how to approach specific compensation tasks the way a seasoned practitioner would.
- Client partnership. Fellows work with clients to understand their challenges and explore how Pave can accelerate their work.
The result is a product platform shaped by people who have done the job, at every level.
What this means for you
Together, these roles close the gap between what AI can do and what your compensation team needs. Fellows bring the judgment, shaping how Pave Agent works and the skills inside it. Engineers bring the hands-on grit, building and deploying workflows with your team.
We're not just shipping tools and hoping it fits your needs. We're working side-by-side with compensation teams to make Pave work in bespoke ways for you.
If you're a Pave client and want to explore how Pave Agent and our experts can help your team, reach out to your account team. We'd love to build with you.
Alex is a Compensation Fellow at Pave. He has more than two decades of experience in total rewards, including 10 years working at Aon plc developing and growing the Radford Survey platform.
